The word “ventura” is from the word “bonaventure” which is Italian for “good fortune”. The Pontiac Ventura was first introduced for 1960 as a new, higher priced model on Pontiac’s B-body wheelbase shared with the Catalina. It was available as both a 4-door Vista sedan and 2-door hardtop. The Ventura continued in 1961 as its own model, but starting in 1962 and through model years 1970, the Ventura was simply a trim option for the Catalina (even though there was no actual “Catalina” association).
