The Riviera by Buick was produced in the United States from the 1963 to 1999 with over a million cars rolling off the lines. A common misconception is that all Rivieras produced after the 1965 model are front wheel drive cars. This is true only of the 1979 through 1999 models.
However, the 4-door Buick Century Riviera was introduced in the middle of the 1955 model year. This icon for the California Highway Patrol, along with the 4-door Special Riviera and the 4-door Oldsmobile 88/98 Holiday, were the first 4-door hardtops ever produced.
