The Pontiac Firebird was introduced in 1967, the same year as its ‘cousin’ the Chevrolet Camaro. This also coincided with the release of the 1967 Mercury Cougar, which shared its platform with another pony car, the Ford Mustang. Optional Trim packages were offered including: Esprit, Formula, Trans-Am, Skybird, Redbird, and Yellowbird. One of the more popular options, Trans Am , only produced 689 hardtops and eight convertibles in its first year, 1969.
