The Oldsmobile 88 (Eighty-eight) was produced for 50 years, from 1949 until 1999. From 1950 to 1974 the 88 was the division’s top-selling line, particularly the Dynamic 88.
Soon the Oldsmobile 98 (Ninety-eight) became the top-line Oldsmobile. This series had the most technologically advanced items available, such as the Hydramatic automatic transmission, an automatic headlight dimmer, and a feature that automatically turned the headlights on and off via a timer, as controlled by the driver.
